ONE Fight Night 40: “I can bring my power out in any fight”

Nico Carrillo’s knockout power has been nothing short of spectacular, but he’s ready to show other facets of his game when he locks horns against a fellow finishing machine in his next fight.

The Scottish powerhouse faces Thai slugger Shadow Singha Mawynn for the ONE interim featherweight Muay Thai world championship inside Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium on Friday, Feb. 13.

Their clash serves as the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 40: Buntan vs. Hemetsberger II on Prime Video.

‘King of the North’ has built a reputation through violent finishes of legends like Nong-O Hama and Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, even sporting a 100 percent finish rate in his wins under the ONE banner.

However, for this fight, the Glasgow native revealed his ambitions extend beyond just collecting another impressive finish.

“Just being all-round good at Muay Thai, because I can bring my power out in any fight and put anybody away, but sometimes it’s not prettier than that,” Nico Carrillo told ONE Championship.

He added, “So, I want to make this fight look, for the fans and for me watching it back, as beautiful and as perfect as I can, without having to resort to my power. Rather, when the shot’s there, it’ll be there.”

Shadow not underestimating Nico Carrillo ahead of war

Shadow Singha Mawynn is keeping his radar locked in on being only the second man to stop Nico Carrillo on the global stage.

While he’s certain he has the tools to hang with ‘King of the North’s’ cracking match-winning power, the Thai refuses to underestimate what his foe brings to the table.

“In my perspective, I would say Nico is a deadly fighter. But I think I will apply my Muay Thai weapons to cope with him,” the Bangkok native told the promotion.

Carrillo and Shadow’s world title battle unfolds just before Jackie Buntan and Stella Hemetsberger renew their rivalry in the main event of ONE Fight Night 40.

North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription can catch the entire card, live in U.S. primetime, for free on Friday, February 13.
