Jalen Hurts urged to get traded by Eagles insider over front office’s potential push back to $255,000,000 QB’s contract extension

The future of Jalen Hurts with the Philadelphia Eagles has stirred some fresh debate as the offseason kicks off. The quarterback inked a five-year deal worth $255 million with the franchise in 2023, but pay has been eclipsed by several other quarterbacks in the last two years.

Speaking via phone call on the “WIP Morning Show” on Tuesday, Elliot Shorr Parks urged Jalen Hurts to request a trade if the Eagles fail to offer him an extension deal this offseason. With his continued high performance, the analyst believes the quarterback deserves better pay.

“I think that I would double down on Jalen before I would trade him,” Shorr-Parks said. “And I really think that’s what it is, right? I think if Jalen and his camp go to the Eagles and say they want a new contract, and the Eagles say no, I think Jalen should ask for a trade.

“If I’m Jalen, I’m not sitting around another year when Nick’s got paid, other people have gotten paid, I’ve won a Super Bowl for you, and you’re still not going to pay me. There are plenty of teams out there that would pay Jalen Hurts. So if I’m Jalen and they say no, then I say, ‘All right, trade me.’”

The Eagles already have several high-contract players on their roster and Jalen Hurts’ current deal keeps the team in a good financial position. However, the quarterback market has tightened since Hurt signed the deal three years ago, raising the value of elite players in the position.

Elliot Shorr-Parks believes something will be done on Jalen Hurts’ contract this offseason

Speaking further on “WIP Morning Show,” Elliot Shorr-Parks believes the Eagles will give some attention to Jalen Hurts’ contract this offseason. Considering what the quarterback offers on the field, he believes there will be a new deal or a restructure of the current contract.

“I think they will redo Jalen’s contract this offseason,” Shorr-Park said. “I do think he will get some version of an extension, whether that is an extra money guarantee down the line, whether that’s an increase in maybe some of his base pay or an option bonus, something like that.

“I think it benefits both sides. It benefits Jalen because it’s been three years since he’s gotten a contract, and it benefits the Eagles because, while I don’t have Jalen’s contract in front of me, I would imagine there is a way to open up cap space for them working on Jalen’s deal.”

Once the highest-paid quarterback in the league, Jalen Hurts has fallen to 11th in terms of quarterback pay, following the series of new contracts across the league. He currently earns below the likes of Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence, Brock Purdy and Jared Goff.
