Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) legend Virat Kohli once again stepped up with the bat when it mattered the most in the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 31. The right-handed batter brought up a half-century off just 25 balls, his quickest in the T20 league. The 37-year-old kept scoring as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.

Kohli reached his half-century in the 12th over of RCB’s chase. Arshad Khan bowled a short delivery, and Kohli stood tall before playing a pull shot towards short mid-wicket for a boundary. He raised his bat while his wife, Anushka Sharma, applauded from the stands.

Speaking about Kohli’s record, he previously slammed 26-ball fifties against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2018. According to Cricbuzz, Suresh Raina, David Warner, and Venkatesh Iyer hold the record for the fastest 50 in the IPL 2026 final. The trio took identical 24 deliveries.

Kohli enjoyed another breakthrough season with the bat in IPL 2026. The right-hander has amassed 650 (and counting) in 16 matches with the help of a century and five fifties.

Shubman Gill-led GT were no match to defending champions RCB in the IPL 2026 final. Asked to bat first, they managed just 155/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Washington Sundar top-scored with an unbeaten 50 off 37 balls as other players failed to show up with the bat. Rasikh Salam did the bulk of the damage with three wickets, while Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets apiece.

In response, RCB were 137/5 in 14.3 overs at the time of writing, with Kohli (58 off 33) and Jitesh Sharma (4 off 2) at the crease. Rashid Khan has been the pick of the GT bowlers, picking up two wickets.

The Rajat Patidar-led side had previously thrashed the Titans by 92 runs in IPL 2026 Qualifier 1.
