Colts hand receiver Alec Pierce historic $114million deal

The Colts held on to their top pass-catcher.

The Indianapolis Colts have re-signed Alec Pierce to a four-year, $114million deal.

Wide receiver Pierce was set to test unrestricted free agency but, as the NFL’s negotiating period opened on Monday, the Colts made a huge move to retain their top pass-catcher.

According to multiple reports, Pierce’s deal features $84m in guarantees, $60m fully guaranteed at signing, and a max package of $116m.

In addition, the contract makes the highest-paid free agent wide receiver in NFL history.

The New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers and San Francisco 49ers were all said to be interested in Pierce.

But he has instead elected to remain in Indianapolis and try to build on the most productive season of his career.

Pierce stays with the Colts

Pierce racked up 1,003 yards receiving and six touchdowns in 2025, leading the NFL in yards per reception (21.3) for the second season running.

His big-play ability was key in the Colts getting off to an 8-2 start. However, they subsequently lost their final seven games to slump to 8-9, an Achilles injury to quarterback Daniel Jones dooming their playoff hopes.

The Colts placed the transition tag on Jones as they continue negotiations over a long-term deal. The transition tag is an offer of a one-year deal of the average of the top-10 salaries at a position. More importantly, it gives the tagging team the right of first refusal to match any offer the player might receive from another team.

Pierce sticking with Indianapolis should only increase Jones’ desire to get a long-term deal done with the Colts and prove he is the answer under center.
