James Pearce Jr.’s battery arrest prompts Rickea Jackson to testify against Falcons rookie

James Pearce Jr. faces legal trouble after being arrested on Saturday. The Atlanta Falcons linebacker faces five felony charges following his arrest near Miami over the weekend.

The arrest happened after what Doral Police said was a domestic dispute with WNBA star Rickea Jackson. The guard’s attorney filed a court notice Tuesday in Miami-Dade County to inform that the player is willing to testify against the NFL player if the charges go to trial.

Marc Raimondi of ESPN reported that Jackson’s attorneys wanted the court to use “all possible resources and personnel” in the case to “conclude it as soon as practicable and bring justice to her and the people of the State of Florida.”

The complaint/arrest affidavit says that Pearce allegedly refused to “get on the floor” when instructed to do exactly that after authorities responded to the report of the domestic dispute. Jackson first told police that Pearce followed her in his vehicle Saturday morning. He tried to open her car at a stop and then rammed it with his vehicle multiple times.

He then locked his car and drove away, hitting a police officer’s left knee with his Lamborghini.

James Pearce Jr. crashed into an interception and fled on foot. Police arrested him after he tried to resist. Pearce posted a $20,500 bond Sunday evening. Pearce now faces five felony charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated stalking. A pretrial conditional stay-away order was filed against the linebacker with regard to Jackson.

Falcons HC Kevin Stefanski breaks silence on James Pearce Jr.’s arrest

The Atlanta Falcons issued a statement regarding James Pearce Jr.’s situation. They said the team was aware of the incident, but declined to make further comments “on an open legal matter.” Head coach Kevin Stefanski briefly touched on the situation ahead of a press conference with his coordinators.

“On the James Pearce situation, there is really nothing to add,” Stefanski said. “I’ll defer, our coaches will defer to the statement that was put out. So, respectfully, I understand there are questions but there’s not much to add there.”

Pearce maintains his innocence after the tumultuous situation.
