England suffered a surprising 30-run defeat to the West Indies in their second Group C match of the 2026 T20 World Cup. After holding off Nepal in their opening encounter by four runs, much was expected out of a powerful English unit in tonight’s game in Mumbai.
However, on a seemingly batting-friendly track, they failed to come close to their target of 197 against the Caribbean side. England were going great guns at 74/1 in the seventh over when the West Indian spinners took over.
From that point on, England failed to stitch together any meaningful partnerships and fell away to be bowled out for 166 in 19 overs. The loss leaves the 2022 T20 champions in a precarious position at third behind the West Indies and Scotland in the Group C standings.
Coming off their recent Ashes drubbing, England haven’t helped their cause with sloppy performances in their opening two games of the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Fans on X were in no mood to spare the England cricket team and their head coach, Brendon McCullum, for their most recent defeat.
Here are some of the best reactions:
Fans continued trolling England and their head coach for the loss to the West Indies, with one saying:
“McCullum is NZ’s Spy he is taking revenge of 2019 WC.”
“Naah mccullum made a mess of it. He chose all openers at different positions. Its all the coach’s chooran that he can do anything. Basically an even more retarded version of gambhir. Gambhir atleast gave us reddy, sundar, tilak, rana,” a fan tweeted.
“At what point does Brendon McCullum get sacked off from English cricket ?,” said a fan.
“Thank God we won against Nepal the other night”- Harry Brook
England captain Harry Brook admitted that the team would be in a dismal position had they not escaped with a win against Nepal, following their loss to the West Indies. England were on the ropes in the Nepal clash, defending only 10 off the final over, before a Sam Curran yorker masterclass saved the day.
Talking about their current position on the points table, Brook said at the post-match presentation (via Cricbuzz):
“You have to be confident in this game. Yeah, we obviously, thank God we won against Nepal the other night, otherwise we’d be in a tricky situation. But we obviously play Scotland and Italy next, and yeah, we’ve just got to go back, do our homework on them, and go back to the basics and see how we go.”
England take on Scotland in their next outing in what could be a potential do-or-die for Super Eight qualification in Kolkata on Saturday, February 14.
