WoW TBC Hellfire Ramparts quests and loot guide

WoW TBC’s Hellfire Ramparts is the first dungeon you can jump into while exploring Outland, and there are several important quests, as well as boss loot drops to keep an eye out for. Some of those quests are daily quests for later in Burning Crusade, while most can be completed pretty early on. These quests are a major source of exp, like all dungeon quests, and many also give you some pretty advantageous gear rewards.

While you don’t need to complete these quests if you want to reach level 70 on any class in WoW TBC, I recommend doing as many of the Hellfire Ramparts quests as you can. Here’s what you need to know going into Hellfire Ramparts in terms of quests and boss drops.

All quests you can complete in WoW TBC Hellfire Ramparts

Unlike later patches to World of Warcraft, WoW TBC’s Hellfire Ramparts just has two quests you can complete for now: Weaken the Ramparts and Dark Tidings. Later on, there will be a daily that takes you back here, which you pick up in Shattrath (WANTED: Nazan’s Riding Crop).

If you want to pick up the WoW TBC Hellfire Ramparts quests, you’re going to need to do several starting quests first. Regardless of whether you’re Alliance or Horde, you need to complete quests in the Hellfire Peninsula region. Here are the quest names you’ll need to complete as both factions:

Alliance requirements

  • The Legion Reborn
  • The Path of Anguish
  • Expedition Point
  • Know your Enemy
  • Fel Orc Scavengers
  • Ill Omens

Horde requirements

  • Through the Dark Portal
  • Arrival in outland
  • Journey to Thrallmar
  • Report to Nazgrel
  • Eradicate the Burning Legion
  • Felspark Ravine
  • Forward Base: Reaver’s Fall

After you complete the aforementioned quests, you can then pick up Weaken the Ramparts in Honor Hold for Alliance (56.4, 66.6) and Thrallmar for the Horde (55.2, 36.0). In order to complete Weaken the Ramparts, you’ll need to do the following:

  • Slay Gargolmar
  • Omor the Unscarred and the Drake Nazan
  • Loot Gargolmar’s Hand, Omor’s Hoof, Nazan’s Hand

Completing it will give you an option between four pieces of Rare gear: Cloth Shoulders, Leather Boots, Mail Gloves, and Plate Shoulders. What you pick largely depends on your particular spec, though. If you want the Dark Tidings quest, loot the Ominous Letter from Vazruden after defeating him in Hellfire Ramparts.

This quest will take you back to your base, where you’ll start working towards The Blood Furnace dungeon. This quest just gives gold, experience, and reputation, but it’s worth doing to move into Blood Furnace.

Boss loot drops from Hellfire Ramparts in WoW TBC

Each boss drops useful loot in Hellfire Ramparts, which we’ve broken down below per boss. Of note, one of the most important drops for the early levels drops here, and that’s the Polearm Hellreaver. Melee DPS characters like Retribution Paladins and Arms Warriors will likely want to need on this. However, these drops aren’t guaranteed, so you’ll just have to grind, hope, and then hope you win, on top of that.
