Vitor Pereira now “in direct talks” to replace Sean Dyche at Nottingham Forest

An “incredible” manager has now emerged as a major contender to replace Sean Dyche at Nottingham Forest, following the draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Forest sack Dyche after Wolves draw

A 0-0 draw against Wolves on Wednesday night was the final draw for Dyche, despite the fact Forest are currently three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, having lost just one of their last six matches.

It is somewhat surprising Evangelos Marinakis has dismissed Dyche at this stage, given that the former Everton manager is experienced in relegation battles, most famously guiding the Toffees to safety on the final day of the 2022-23 campaign.

However, the owner is now tasked with finding a fourth manager of the season, and it recently emerged that he is a keen admirer of a Premier League manager.

Dyche could be on thin ice…

The Athletic reported immediately that ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Vitor Pereira is a major contender to replace Dyche at Nottingham Forest too, having been identified as a strong candidate.

Ben Jacobs has sinced added to the news, revealing “direct talks” between the parties.

Marinakis knows Pereira well, given that he is the former manager of Olympiacos, winning a Greek league and cup double in the 2014-15 season.

The 57-year-old is currently out of work, having been sacked by Wolves in November, with his side bottom of the table, after failing to win any of their first 10 Premier League games.

Appointing Pereira could be gamble for Forest

Dyche is a safe pair of hands, as evidenced by the fact he kept Everton in the top flight, while also managing to punch above his weight by avoiding relegation with Burnley.

Pereira, on the other hand, made a terrible start to the current season, so it would be a risk to bring him in as a replacement, but there are some signs it could work out.

Alan Shearer lauded the Portuguese manager for the job he did at Molineux last season, saying: “He really has done an incredible job, the whole atmosphere on the pitch and off the pitch.

“He’s given everyone belief and confidence, made them more solid at the back. All over the park, they’re better, so he’s done a great job.”

The former FC Porto boss has also enjoyed a successful career, winning two league titles during his time in Portugal, and lifting a total of eight trophies.

As such, Pereira could be a solid replacement for Dyche, but it would certainly be a gamble, given just how poor Wolves have been this season.
