AEW star Swerve Strickland joined the Jacksonville-based company in 2022. He is one of the most talented names in the promotion and a former AEW World Champion. He is having a good year, and it seems like this strong momentum will continue.
The New Flavor has been pursuing the AEW World Title for several months. He unsuccessfully challenged for it in a four-way match against MJF, “Hangman” Adam Page, and Samoa Joe (former champion) at Worlds End 2025. Just like him, Kenny Omega is also striving to become world champion again. Both men suffered huge losses at the hands of the returning Andrade El Idolo in recent weeks, and tensions were high last night.
Omega and Strickland had a fiery promo war on this latest episode of Dynamite. Furthermore, things got so out of hand that the two wrestlers began brawling. Later, the company announced that Omega vs. Strickland will take place for the first time next Wednesday.
The former NXT North American Champion had a two-word reaction to this announcement.
“Ive awaken,” wrote Strickland.
Swerve Strickland said that he recently texted Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho was the inaugural AEW World Champion. He was initially one of Tony Khan’s most trusted names. However, reports suggest that he is done with the company and is WWE-bound. While most want him to return to his previous employers, many want him to stay in All Elite Wrestling.
In a recent interview with Adam’s Apple, the New Flavor revealed that he texted Y2J and congratulated him on whatever he decides to do in the future. He intends to support him no matter what.
“I actually texted Chris. I congratulated him on whatever his decision is going to be. So whatever his decision is going to be, I’m supporting him no matter what,” he said. [H/T: Sports Illustrated]
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for both Strickland and Jericho. Hopefully, their paths will meet elsewhere again.
