NFL insider opens up about Eagles’ TE plans as $10,000,000 contract ends in 2026

Dallas Goedert is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this spring after eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. As the offseason activities kick off, it remains uncertain whether the Eagles will re-sign the veteran tight end for one more season as they did in 2025.

On Friday, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo offered some clues on the future of Goedert with the Eagles on “The Anthony Gargano Show.” The insider believes the tight end’s story at the franchise might not be over, noting that he’s open for a return for the upcoming NFL season.

“I know Dallas would like to come back, all things equal,” Garafolo said. “He took a pay cut last year to make it happen. But even then, you’ve got to have yourself multiple tight ends.

“I honestly was surprised they didn’t do more for that position coming into last year, knowing that he was potentially going to be gone beyond this season and how he’s been pretty good about getting somebody who can then be the successor at multiple positions.

“He’s done it in the secondary. He’s done it at the offensive line. He didn’t do it at tight end. And this could be the year that he does it. They got him back on a one-year deal, draft the kid early in the draft or maybe go out and sign somebody and have that kind of transition.”

Dallas Goedert, who inked a one-year deal worth $10 million in May 2025, appeared in 10 games for the Eagles during the 2025 season, recording 42 receptions for 496 yards and two touchdowns. His return in 2026 would be crucial in preparing a younger player, most likely a rookie, for the role.

Analyst names Dallas Goedert potential replacement in Philadelphia

With uncertainty around Dallas Goedert’s future with the Eagles, there are already speculations on his potential replacement. CBS Sports Jared Dubin believes the Eagles could go for Cleveland Browns David Njoku in free agency, explaining why he’s a good fit.

“Whether they want to address the position in the draft or not, they could have a need here if Goedert decides to pursue opportunities elsewhere,’’ Dubin said. “Eagles need to figure out a way to open up the middle of the field for their offense, and Njoku could help them do that.”

After losing the starting role to Harold Fannin Jr. in 2025, Njoku took to social media to announce he will not be returning to the Browns in 2026 and plans to test free agency in search of a new team. This could see the Eagles take a chance on him in place of Dallas Goedert this spring.
