Man Utd now eye summer spending spree with approach made for Caleb Yirenkyi

Manchester United have now made an approach to sign a “crazily good” midfielder, with director of football Jason Wilcox personally keen.

Man Utd planning summer spending spree

Man United have been in remarkable form since Michael Carrick took over as interim manager, emerging victorious in their last four Premier League games, which means Frank Ilett, AKA ‘The United Strand’, is just one win away from finally getting a haircut.

During that time, the Red Devils have chalked up some impressive victories, defeating rivals Manchester City and league leaders Arsenal, and they are now five points clear of sixth-placed Liverpool, meaning Carrick’s side are in a strong position to secure Champions League qualification.

If United manage to qualify for Europe’s elite competition, they should be able to attract some top players at the end of the season, and it has now been revealed they are planning to go on a summer spending spree.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, should Carrick’s side qualify for the Champions League, INEOS are planning to spend £200m on new players, with the likes of Elliot Anderson, Rocco Reitz, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton among the targets in central midfield.

However, the report states Man United are also eyeing a move for more of an unknown quantity, having made contact over a deal for FC Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi, who is also of interest to the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal.

Wilcox is personally keen on signing Yirenkyi, and a deal could be done for a relatively low fee, by United’s standards, with the Danish club looking to hold out for £22m.

“Crazily good” Yirenkyi could be exciting long-term signing

Nordsjaelland teammate Amoako Junior took the time to praise the 20-year-old midfielder last month, saying: “Caleb is insane, he’s crazily good. I say this every time because he delivers almost every time, every game, and to keep that consistency is top level.

“Caleb is a superstar, and I tell him so much every time, but he wants to achieve a lot too.”

Since then, the starlet has picked up where he left off before the Superliga’s winter break, grabbing his second goal and fifth assist of the campaign in a 2-1 victory against Sonderjyske.

Yirenkyi is still very young, so it will be important for Man United to bring in a more experienced midfielder this summer, with Casemiro set to leave, but the Nordsjaelland star could be an exciting long-term signing.
