Leeds United have now set their sights on a move to sign an England international for Daniel Farke this summer, according to recent reports.
Leeds plotting move to sign England international
The 49ers certainly aren’t afraid to be ambitious these days and early reports have suggested that this summer could be no different. Following a quiet January transfer window, in which only Facundo Buonanotte arrives, Leeds have been linked with a number of impressive names.
One of which is Harry Wilson. The Fulham star is out of contract in the summer and after Leeds attempted to secure his signature in January, they could return in an attempt to land a bargain deal.
He’s not the only name on their supposed shortlist, however. The Whites are also reportedly interested in a move to sign Borussia Dortmund left-back Daniel Svensson, who could cost up to £26m in the summer.
By signing the Dortmund man, Leeds would be sending an impressive statement of intent to go alongside their potential Premier League survival this summer.
Farke already has his own Harry Wilson in Leeds’ “human wrecking ball”
Leeds will be in the race for Harry Wilson this summer, but Daniel Farke may already have an internal solution.
Farke recently reaffirmed a united front on transfer decisions at Elland Road, telling reporters: “My role is to identify profiles and targets, sometimes even players, that could make us better, but it’s also important that the financial department, who leads the club in the mid to long-term in terms of sustainability, have their say. You agree together on what you will do or won’t do.”
Whether all parties come together in Yorkshire to sign an England international is now the big question. According to TeamTalk, Leeds are plotting a move to sign James Trafford from Manchester City this summer alongside a number of Premier League clubs.
“Unbelievable” Trafford would take Leeds to new level
From Illan Meslier, who could be on his way out of the club, to Karl Darlow, Leeds haven’t exactly been blessed in the goalkeeping department in recent years. It has made Lucas Perri’s strong start all the more important, but that’s not to say there’s not room for another upgrade.
Signing Trafford would hand Farke a No.1 for years to come at Elland Road as well as an instant upgrade on Perri. It would also come at a time in Trafford’s career when he needs to prove a point after losing his place at Man City to serial winner Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Leeds aren’t the only side interested, though. Alongside them, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also sniffing around – sparking quite the race. The Whites will at least be hoping that the fact Trafford is represented by the same agent as Wilfried Gnonto provides an unexpected boost to smooth over any complicated negotiations.
Guardiola may yet be keen to keep hold of his goalkeeper too, having told reporters following Trafford’s performance against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup: “James [Trafford] was unbelievable, especially in the first-half. James is a top, top class player, top class keeper. He has an incredible future ahead of him.”
