It’s fair to say that many of a Tottenham Hotspur persuasion are dissatisfied with the way things are going at N17.

Detachment. Disappointment. These are common emotions across the Spurs fanbase right now. It’s felt that the London club lack the ambition of some of their rivals at the top of the Premier League, with failed bids for top talents a recurrent theme in the transfer market.
Antoine Semenyo stands as an example there.
Why Spurs missed out on Antoine Semenyo
Tottenham have missed out on a whole slew of targets in recent times, hindering their fight to return to the top of English football.
After devoting so much time and energy into signing Semenyo throughout 2025, it’s going to sting that he’s moved from Bournemouth to Manchester City and is thriving under Pep Guardiola, four goals and an assist from his first six outings in blue.
A direct and deadly winger, Semenyo, 25, was marked as the perfect profile for Tottenham, who sold club legend Heung-min Son to LAFC last summer. Efforts were actually made to bring him to London last year, but Spurs were quickly left behind in recent months as City worked toward landing his signature.
Ultimately, though, it was not for a want of trying. Indeed, with Liverpool and Man City the frontrunners in the build-up to his move, Spurs were always walking upstream.
However, less acceptable is the fact that an alternative was not signed, especially when considering Brennan Johnson was sold to Crystal Palace a month ago and Mohammed Kudus has since been sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Tottenham do have a Semenyo-esque prospect who could ease the blow in the long run, though.
Spurs already have their own Semenyo
Tottenham are not lacking players with natural ability. Most of Frank’s senior side have punched below their weight class for much of the campaign, and the squad is littered with those who have spent too long suffering under-par performances.
It’s clear inspiration is needed, and Semenyo was supposed to provide that answer. That door’s closed, but Mikey Moore could end up playing that designated role and more.
Moore, 18, is currently out on loan with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, having grown into first-team clothing last year under Postecoglou’s wing.
Moore boasts a Europa League gold medal, scoring a goal and providing an assist across five appearances during the Lilywhites’ continental conquest.
A prodigious talent at youth level, the young winger is tipped for big things. A “superstar” of a talent, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 18-year-old posted 14 goals and eight assists during the 2023/24 U18 Premier League.
Although Moore had a rocky start to life in Scotland, he’s beginning to find his feet and provide attacking influence for a resurgent Gers side. He was praised as a “special” prospect who always stood out by Jermaine Defoe after gains made in recent months for the Scottish giants.

An entertaining and mercurial dribbler, Moore is a small but stocky player, a wicked mix of pace and power which consumed youth defences and saw him fast-tracked to senior action. Spurs writer James Harris remarked that Moore could even “bring back the old Aaron Lennon”, an ode to just how much speed this young player has.
Coming into his own at Rangers, Moore could be in line for a big role at Tottenham next season, and if he can secure himself a starting berth under Frank’s wing next year, frustration concerning Semenyo will soon be forgotten down N17.
Of course, while Moore has the potential to become a world-beater, he’s not there yet. Indeed, he’s in Glasgow and will remain there until the end of the season.
So then, he doesn’t solve the more pressing problems for the north Londoners. However, Tottenham can rest assured that, in the long run, they’ve got one of the Premier League’s brightest prospects, someone who can surpass the likes of Semenyo.
