After completing a move to FC Utrecht on transfer deadline day, former West Ham United man Emeka Adiele has shared some insight into Jarrod Bowen’s character from within Rush Green.
West Ham hoping to push for survival after busy January
It was a hectic January transfer window for West Ham, who simply had to bring in reinforcements, given that they are in serious danger of losing their Premier League status.
The Hammers are currently sitting in 18th place, six points from safety, following the 3-2 defeat against Chelsea last time out, and they have the worst defensive record in the top flight, having shipped a whopping 48 goals in 24 games.
As such, it was vital a new centre-back was brought in on deadline day, and they managed to get a deal for Axel Disasi over the line, with the Frenchman joining on loan from Chelsea for the remainder of the campaign.
With the Irons bringing in a total of five players during the winter window, they had to create some space in the squad, and Emeka Adiele was one of the players who was offloaded, with the defender joining FC Utrecht for an undisclosed fee on deadline day.
After making the move to the Netherlands, Adiele shared some insight from within Rush Green, and took the time to praise Bowen’s character specifically.
“I’ve never taken an opportunity for granted. Every time I trained, with or without the older players, I just made sure I played to the best of my ability.
“I’ve learned a lot, especially from the senior players. Who was the leader there? Jarrod Bowen. Everyone looks up to him. He’s a leader on and off the pitch. Hopefully, I can bring my experience from West Ham and contribute here.”
Bowen will be key to West Ham’s survival chances
West Ham are in a perilous position, in light of Nottingham Forest’s solid form over the past few weeks, with Sean Dyche’s side collecting eight points from their last four Premier League matches.
However, a six-point gap is by no means insurmountable, and the Hammers have started making some improvements themselves, defeating Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland, before going on to exhibit some encouraging signs at Stamford Bridge, taking a two-goal lead.
Bowen has scored in each of his last two Premier League matches, while also grabbing an assist against Sunderland, and as Nuno‘s side’s top scorer, the Englishman has a big part to play between now and the end of the season.
