Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph has now dropped the latest update on Celtic‘s pursuit of an experienced free agent, with the Bhoys nearing a breakthrough.
Celtic secure triple deadline-day deal
It always looked likely to be a busy deadline day at Celtic. The Hoops waited until the very end of the window to finish their business and finally welcome further attacking reinforcements.
By the time that the deadline arrived, they had welcomed a total of five reinforcements throughout the window, with three of them arriving at the death.
Junior Adamu and Joel Mvuka will be ones to watch, in particular, after arriving from the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 respectively on deadline day.
Welcoming his new signings, manager Martin O’Neill told reporters when asked about Mvuka: “Joel is a talented player who has a very good level of experience achieved at some really good clubs.
“He will give the squad another option, he is very quick, able to play on both wings and I am sure he will make a very positive contribution to the club. I know he is very excited about joining Celtic and we are hoping he can make a great impact for us.”
The veteran manager was similarly delighted to welcome Adamu, saying: “We are really pleased to welcome Junior to Celtic. He has experience of high level football. He has also been involved in European competition, so we are bringing in a talented, experienced, international forward to really enhance our attacking options.”
Even after securing those two attacking additions and more in the January window, however, Celtic still have some unfinished business and may have saved their best signing until after the deadline.
Anthony Joseph drops major Oxlade-Chamberlain update
According to Sky Sports’ Joseph, Celtic are now closing in on signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as a free agent. The Hoops are reportedly in advanced talks with the former Liverpool man and a medical could take place as soon as today if all parties reach an agreement.
It looks set to be an impressive coup for Celtic, who could be about to sign a midfielder who won it all in English football and received plenty of praise whilst doing so.
Iconic ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told reporters in 2023: “The one moment that comes in my mind, it describes a little bit the time here but as well how good he is, is the situation in the Roma semi-final, the home game when he got injured. In that moment I had no idea how to replace him, honestly – Ox was that good.
“Excited” – Martin O’Neill shares Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain update after Celtic talks
The free agent can still sign for Celtic after deadline day.
“It was everything: he came here, had played from time to time at wing-back at Arsenal, winger for sure, and he became a proper No.8 here in the way we wanted to play – super-energetic, technically outstanding.”
