Aston Villa have now made contact to sign an “amazing” Champions League-winning star, who is being targeted by a whole host of Premier League clubs.
Villa make approach to sign new forward
With Villa slipping up in their most recent match, falling short in a 2-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, Unai Emery has admitted the dream of winning the Premier League title is over.
The Spaniard said: “Someone, even myself, may say ‘maybe we can’. Some supporters, maybe they were dreaming it. Now we are not with the possibility to fight for the Premier League, some can feel frustrated, even myself because I have my dreams.
“In September I was worried and the objective was to stay in the Premier League. In December I was so happy and excited to get the top-five position and achieve the Champions League.
The race for the Champions League places is starting to heat up, with Liverpool moving just three points adrift of the Villans courtesy of a 5-2 victory against West Ham United on Saturday, while Chelsea and Manchester United are also pushing.
With Emery’s side in third place, having taken 51 points from 28 games, they remain in a strong position to qualify for Europe’s elite competition, and doing so would enable them to compete for the signatures of some top players this summer.
According to a report from Caught Offside, Aston Villa have now made an informal approach to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Senny Mayulu, but there could be competition, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United also keen.
PSG are reluctant to lose Mayulu on a free transfer, so with talks about a new contract reaching a standstill, they may be forced to cash-in, with a potential transfer fee of €65m – €70m (£57m – £61m) being touted.
Mayulu could be “amazing” signing for Aston Villa
Although he is only 19-years-old, the youngster, who primarily plays in central midfield, has already experienced a great deal of success, scoring in the Champions League final last season, with PSG battering Inter Milan 5-0.
The teenager doesn’t have a weak foot, and he has received high praise from scout Ben Mattinson for his ability to link up play and pick out his teammates in dangerous areas.
The Frenchman doesn’t always play the full 90 minutes, but he is a regular starter for PSG in Ligue 1, chipping in with three goals and four assists in 17 appearances this season.
Lauded as “amazing” by scout Jacek Kulig, Mayulu could be an exciting long-term signing for Villa, but getting a deal done could be difficult, with a number of the Premier League’s top clubs also in the race.
Unai Emery has personally green-lit Aston Villa deal for Bayern Munich star, he’s a ‘big fan’
The Spaniard personally wants him at Villa.
