Chelsea have now stepped-up their interest in signing a Premier League attacker in a transfer battle against German giants Bayern Munich.
Chelsea intensify interest in Premier League star
Barring their frustrating slip-up against Leeds United, it’s been an excellent few weeks for Chelsea. The Blues have lost just twice in 11 games under Liam Rosenior and the young manager is continuing to prove doubters wrong.
Last night’s 4-0 thumping of Hull City handed the new manager a full-circle moment as he came up against one of his old clubs from the very start of his career.
As classy as ever, Rosenior wished the Tigers well in their chase for promotion – saying: “I really hope it happens. So I wish them all the best. It’s so nice to see so many really welcoming faces here and I think the manager is doing a fantastic job.”
It’s looking more and more likely that BlueCo have welcomed a fantastic young manager, but they must back him when the summer transfer window swings open.
There are still plenty of weaknesses in Rosenior’s side and recent rumours suggest that the Blues are willing to strengthen when the window swings open.
Names such as Kees Smit and even Atletico Madrid superstar Julian Alvarez have already been mentioned in recent reports, and a move for the latter would be particularly exciting.
The former Manchester City man has taken La Liga by storm ever since arriving, finding himself back on the radar of the Premier Legaue’s biggest clubs as a result.
He’s not the only forward catching the Blues’ eye, however. According to reports in Spain, Chelsea have also intensified their interest in signing Igor Thiago ahead of Bayern Munich this summer.
Impressive Thiago is destined for the top
Thiago’s form is no longer just a purple patch. He has taken Brentford into contention for shock European qualification, defying those who expected the Bees to suffer relegation under Keith Andrews this season.
Chelsea hold concrete interest in “superb” Premier League star, proposal made
The Blues have come forward to sign a defender.
Only Erling Haaland has scored more Premier League goals than the Brentford striker and that has sparked interest from Bayern. Reports from Spain have claimed that the German giants were in a strong position to sign Thiago, only for interest from Chelsea and Manchester City to since burst their bubble.
Brentford, meanwhile, showed their intent by awarding their star striker a new contract earlier this week, which will make securing his signature all the more difficult for Chelsea and others.
“He is a really special person who has fitted into life very nicely. He has had to earn this path. He has earned his journey and grafted.
“He has got serious grit about his personality. He is developing his skill set constantly, and we are learning more and more about him. He is a pretty complete centre-forward.” (Andrews on Thiago)
It’s no surprise that he’s received plenty of praise, having already scored 17 Premier League goals so far this season with 12 games left to play.
