Nico Carrillo of Scotland realized his dreams in the co-main event of ONE Fight Night 40 on Feb. 13, where he was crowned the new interim featherweight Muay Thai world champion.
Things looked bleak early on for ‘King of the North’ after Shadow Singha Mawynn controlled Round 1 with chopping leg kicks that disrupted his rhythm.
It went from bad to worse when the Thai brawler clocked him clean with a left hook in Round 2 that wobbled him. Shadow staggered Carrillo again in Round 3 with the same textbook technique.
After surviving powerful shots from the former Rajadamnern Stadium champion, Carrillo set up one of the most dramatic comebacks in ‘The Art of Eight Limbs’.

‘King of the North’ stayed the course and unloaded one right cross that completely shifted the tide. Shadow fell on his back from the sheer impact, dazed as he barely survived the eight-count.
The Thai showed immense heart, but that knockdown took a lot out of Shadow’s legs and sapped his energy. Carrillo, on the other hand, looked as fresh as ever entering the fifth.
He owned the final three minutes with a relentless barrage of punishment until the final horn.
Official result: Nico Carrillo defeats Shadow Singha Mawynn via unanimous decision to become the ONE Interim Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion
Carrillo had a huge smile on his face before Dom Lau officially read the judges’ verdict.
‘King of the North’ did what he set out to do, silencing his doubters along the way.
The Scottish finisher proved that not only can he dish out major damage, but he can also take it in return.
As a reward for his massive efforts, Carrillo finally took home that elusive 26 pounds of gold that eluded him at bantamweight.
For now, Carrillo will enjoy the spoils of victory but will be ready for war once ONE featherweight Muay Thai world champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai heals from injury.
