Leeds “definitely” in race to sign star who Alan Shearer called “brilliant”

Leeds United are “definitely” in the race to sign an impressive attacking star alongside a number of Premier League rivals this summer.

Farke shares injury update on Stach and Struijk

It’s a hectic schedule for Leeds and the rest of the Premier League right now, with a number of clubs set to take part in their third game in the space of seven days this weekend when the FA Cup returns.

For those at Elland Road, it is a trip to Championship side Birmingham City and the chance to take one step closer to Wembley which awaits.

In usual circumstances, the Whites would have their attention set on survival and nothing else. This time around, however, they sit six points clear of the dropzone and may have the chance to enjoy an exciting cup run.

Daniel Farke had his say on the test that awaits in his pre-match press conference, telling reporters: “They have good momentum at the moment. It’s a club with lots of potential. We are respectful and we know it’s a tough place to go. I expect a packed stadium and a good atmosphere.”

The German also shared some early team news, revealing: “Of course, we want to go into the next round. There is no doubt about this. But of course, on the other hand, the league and to achieve survival has a priority.

Calvert-Lewin 2.0: Former star is now worth more than every Leeds player

A former Leeds star is in Dominic Calvert-Lewin style form away from Elland Road.

“And for that, we won’t risk any player where we have any doubt. So, I don’t think that Anton Stach and Pascal Struijk will be involved for this game because they are still on the road of rehab.”

Injuries are always likely to test Leeds’ squad depth to its limit and that will only raise questions about further reinforcements in the summer, amid links to the likes of Tyrell Malacia.

Leeds “definitely” in race to sign Harry Wilson

One player who could arrive to ease that depth problem is Harry Wilson. According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Leeds are “definitely” in the race to sign Wilson alongside several Premier League rivals.

“Leeds would be in that market to try and sign Wilson come the summer, but I’m sure the player will have so many options.

“Will Leeds be able to compete with some of the probably big offers that other clubs can make? That remains to be seen, but he’s definitely somebody who’s still on their radar.”

Dubbed “brilliant” by Alan Shearer earlier in the campaign, Wilson has been one of the standout players of the season in the Premier League.

The Welshman has been in the form of his career, scoring nine goals and assisting another five in 29 appearances in all competitions. But that form could come at a price for Fulham, with Wilson’s contract coming to an end and clubs beginning to circle around a true summer bargain.

It’s partly why survival is so important for Leeds. These are the conversations they’ll be in if they secure their Premier League place, and a player like Wilson would only take them further towards top flight comfort.
