Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani is coming off a second consecutive World Series win with the NL West team. However, the two-way phenom is now preparing to defend the World Baseball Classic title with Team Japan.
Ohtani, who won a record fourth MVP title with the Dodgers last year, played a crucial role in Japan’s WBC triumph with his two-way ability in 2023. While the Dodgers star is preparing to take the grand stage next month, he shared how he unwinds with his family after games.
During a conversation with Access Hollywood, Ohtani said he feels “fortunate” to have his wife, daughter and his dog, Decoy at home after baseball games.

“For the first five years of my career, it was more of just myself going to the stadium back to my house or hotel, I was just really focused on baseball,” Ohtani said. “But now that my family’s slowly growing, I have decoy and my wife, I have my daughter. It’s like I feel like I’m very fortunate in the sense that I get to kind of live in two different worlds.
“I get to go to the field. I play baseball. I’m like a baseball player, and then I come home, and I’m a dad. I get to spend time with my loved ones and for me, just being at home, I’m able to relax and just forget everything. I used to watch a lot of Tv, but now that my daughter’s here now, I’m just kind of stuck looking at her the whole time.”
Ohtani announced his marriage to Mamiko Tanaka in February 2024. The pair welcomed their first child, a daughter, in April 2025.
Shohei Ohtani shared excitement on Dodgers’ offseason signings
The Dodgers have won consecutive World Series titles after signing Shohei Ohtani to a record $700 million contract ahead of the 2024 season. The NL West team made another splash this offseason, spending $300 million on Kyle Tucker and Edwin Diaz’s signings.
Ohtani talked about the arrival of Tucker and Diaz, sharing his excitement about the Dodgers’ aspirations of winning more titles.
“I think it’s very exciting,” Ohtani said. “You know, when I did decide to sign with the Dodgers, that was a conversation I had with the ownership group. They promised me that they were going to put the best team out on the field. And just, you know, the goal was to, again, continue to win as many World Series as we could.
“I never forget that I go out on the field every day kind of feeling the pressure but at the same time having fun and knowing that this team has a chance to win and we can bring it, bring it home to the fans,” he continued
While Ohtani said he isn’t thinking “too much” about the three-peat, the Japanese star wants to be part of team to win three consecutive World Series.
